Fibreglass and glass wool
Fibreglass is also called as glasswool insulation. It is the mot common insulation used to insulate roofs globally. They are relatively inexpensive to buy and easy to install, they have good heat and cooling properties and is made from up to 70% recycled glass.
The process of making fibreglass as goes:
- The raw material glass and sand are melted at around 1550C.
- The liquid glass is the sun rapidly and extruded out of small holes to form fibres.
- These fibres are then coated with a resin to bind them
- Then they are shaped into batts or mattresses.
The main environmental benefit of fibreglass insulation is that it is made 70% from recycled glass therefore reducing cost and helping the environment.
Key Features of Fibreglass Insulation:
- Relatively easy to install
- Both Heating and Cooling properties
- Reduces noise - Acoustic properties
- Resistant to Fire
- Resistant to Insects
- Does Not Shrink
